After copping some criticism from Bank of PNG Governor Loi Bakani and others in the banking and financial sectors regarding the crowd-funding initiative, PNG Think Tank Group CEO Samson Komati has explained the motive behind it.
Speaking to EMTV News today, Mr Komati said the project initiative is to provide better opportunities for local SMEs and individuals to invest in the country’s banking and financial services sector.
He says Papua New Guineans must take ownership of PNG’s banking sector, thus taking back PNG’s economy under the Marape Government’s aim of taking back PNG.

It might not be a scam, but the potential is high.
Samon Komati you sound very patriotic and back taker go forward clouds are cleared.
WAY TO GO. KISIM BEK PNG IN ALL SECTORS TOO FROM INFRASTRUCTURE (SAY LET DEPT OF WORKS TAKE OVER ALL ROAD AND INFRASTRUCTURE WORKS LIKE WE ONCE DID IN THE 80S AND 90S), ECONOMICS, SOCIAL AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT, AGRICULTURE ETC … HOWEVER THE RULE BOOKS MUST BE ADHERED TO SO AS TO RETAIN THE TRUST OF THE MANY TAX PAYERS AND EXTERNAL OBSERVERS. PERHAPS GOOD GOVERNANCE AND ANTICORRUPTION MECHANISM BE ALSO TAKEN BACK BY THIS EFFORT. ALL IN ALL, ITS NOT BAD FOR THE 89% RURAL MAJORITY TO AT LEAST TRY SOMETHING FOR A CHANGE. THANK YOU MTV Na All THOSE WHO ARE ADVOCATING FOR THIS CHANGE. IF THERE ARE THINGS FOR US TO LEARN FROM, AT LEAST WE WILL ALSO LEARN AND IMPROVE MORE ON HOW WE CAN MANAGE OUR OWN BANKING FOR THE UNBANKED AFFAIRS AND NOT BEING DICTATED BY EXTERNAL PLAYERS WHO HAVE NO INTEREST IN OUR HUMANITY AND PROSPERITY. THUMBS UP TO THE PRO-PNG TEAM.
Let's take back PNG!
This stupid sounds like a scam. Be careful.
Well stated and expressed, Mr Komati. Cheers.
Where will the pledges be invested and who will manage it, how will the investors benefit? Is this a Corporate Cult Scheme?

Samson, I appreciate the efforts put this far. Let us not being gullible but audicious and pragmatic for once and support this move. Critics may say it's just a pie in the sky but for once, lets believe in ourselves that we as PNGuineans can make an impact in the banking industry or in any thing we intend to do. Keep to the rule book and we won't go wrong. Keep up the momentum. Cheers
