Thanks for stopping by to watch Back Chat! We’re Amy & Maggie aka ThinkerThemer. We’re an Australian couple with two very different perspectives of what makes a great board game – Amy (Thinker) is all about the mechanics and enjoys tight, competitive games, and Maggie (Themer) is all about the storytelling and the theme of the game, and the ‘world’ that the designer is trying to create. Subscribe to our channel to hear us talk about these two elements of a game, and how well integrated we feel these are in delivering a cohesive and wonderful game experience.

You two are so adorable! I love these videos of just chatting!

  2. Karen Patterson

I absolutely love the look of Floriferous and def going to look for it to grab when available in retail stores. Your number 1 pick with the 3 games look fantastic.

  3. DooDooDaddyTV

I bought the base game of Robinson Crusoe because of this. Looks like my type of game, especially solo

Always great seeing your lovely faces! None of these are on my back list, at least not for now, but I am reaaaaaaaally trying to cut back on buying games… For now. At this exact moment. Very interesting observations and questions about the use of cultural consultants. I hope it doesn’t just become a check the box exercise and that the consultants’ views and the cultures represented really shine.

Great video. Thanks. Sefirot is a Hebrew word. It means "emanations". They are the 10 attributes of Kabbalah – Jewish Mysticism. BTW, you pronounce the "T" in the word.

Great video. New to the channel so this is my first Back Chat. Wow, do you normally fund this many games every two weeks? Now I understand a lot of the comments and the emojis! 😂

I'm curious about your thoughts on John Company and whether you would back it. Or maybe I'm just interested on hearing more of your thoughts on Cole Wherle games🤔 he makes very interesting games and designs, if a little unfriendly to two players. But he really does add designer into designer boardgames and unabashedly states his historical games aren't for everyone. I respect that Cole, challenge accepted.

I would have such a hard time living in Australia. Everything is so EXPENSIVE. Or maybe the truth is that all Australians are millionaires but due to exorbitant import fees, they are brought back down to regular income levels 🤔😂

Greetings from Texas! I've been enjoying your videos for a few weeks now (starting with the Red Rising bit) and keep returning for your positive auras. It's hard to NOT smile while watching your content, keep up the good work!

I see Maggie has on another beautiful shirt. I wear boring t-shirts, but you have inspired me. None bought yet, but I'm looking for higher quality shirts from now on. My wife will be very happy.

Happily, nothing really appealed to me this fortnight…no FOMO for me this time, yay! Although that deluxe edition of Robinson Crusoe did make it more appealing. I've been squarely on the fence about it so far so now I'm leaning slightly towards wanting it. As always, love the banter, you guys are definitely more comfortable in front of the camera now!

  11. Miss Raindrop

You two. As of right now, I'm not backing anything covered but I enjoyed hearing your perspectives on each game. Loving the mood mic.

I am also backing Robinson Crusoe. The all in, as I don't have the game yet. But I've heard people say it would be cheaper to just buy the game right now and then buy the upgraded pack. But I'm also interested in having everything! What do you gals suggest? Are the expansions worth it?

  13. Tim Beatty

What audio recording software are you using? It's excellent sound quality.

Great video as always, Amy and Maggie!

I'm currently just backing two projects from this group: Ghost Writer and Robinson Crusoe.

I enjoyed Mechanica which was an earlier Resonym game. I also am a fan of Codenames and Decrypto, so the type of gameplay in Ghost Writer sounds like a great fit!

While I'm currently backing Robinson Crusoe, I'm not sure it's a game that my game groups will enjoy. We actually played it once, and we got crushed in the first scenario. Apparently that's not a good scenario for first-time players. Like Maggie mentioned, the addition of the Book of Adventures may fix things. I see that Joanna Kijanka is a co-designer on the Book of Adventures, and she's done a great job with Imperial Settlers: Empires of the North.

Good points about acknowledging the cultural consultants. Maybe bgg should consider adding that field to the credits for a game.

I'm not sure about the game bundles that are showing up on kickstarter. I think I'm probably less likely to back those projects in general. But I have had good luck with BoardGameTable projects, and my group really enjoyed Pipeline, so I'm tempted by at least Bear Raid. Factory Funner has gotten good reviews, but my group generally isn't a fan of real time games. I know they've added a turn-based variant, but the game was designed for real-time play, so I'm not sure the new mode will work well. I'm still on the fence about backing.

For the next fortnight (I just learned that the etymology is basically "fourteen nights" :D), I'll be keeping an eye out for Florence, Hippocrates, Eos, Empyreal, and the Canvas expansion.

Hope you're having a great week! See you both next time! 😀

Really exciting week with lots of gorgeous games! With so many multi-game campaigns we are going to have an avalanche of games by the end of the year 😂. I'll be also backing your number one, the three of them look super interesting and wildly different from on another! By the way, this would be the second time Factory Funner is on kickstarter and for the previous one they set up a website where you can try the game, maybe Maggie wants to give it a go (since I think only solo mode works) [factory-funner-online.com]. Anyways, a pleasure as always 🌈❤

(it is also the second time I comment because apparently Youtube deleted my previous one )

If you have an interest in Tarot cards, you should check out the Questeros Kickstarter on right now as it is a full tarot deck, a multiplayer trick taking game, a solo adventure game, and a full "deck of fate" for rpg adventures all in one.

  17. Billy Indiana

I backed Fjords & am still deciding on Robinson Crusoe. I was also tempted by Floriferous but decided to wait on the retail as well. Great video.

    Hola ladies,
I loved the review, I was waiting for it as usual and really wanted to see where the Beard raid (&2) lands and it landed where I wanted. I’m loving it too. Since you mentioned about the bag, I’m thinking of getting one too it comes in handy. My group really enjoys On Tour from boardgametables.com .
I know Amy you said you’re not a fan of the screens that hides your stuff I.e., in bear raid (I think), you gotta try “Capone”. The production quality and the game play is phenomenal. I kinda like the screens as I said I like being competitive and I do it in my own way so I like my stuff hidden unlike in some other games where people can see and tell how much points you have.

Ghost rider was another one that intrigued me, look forward to checking that out. Thank you for putting “backing” stamps, appreciate you taking my feedback and incorporating it!
Last game I backed was Caper but apart from KS , it’s been a quiet () 2 weeks. Though it’s been boring like Amy said

Also, you gotta try Curious Cargo and Pipeline. Both are beautiful and very very puzzly games. I can usually play 2-3 games back to back but after playing either of those, I’m my brain needs rest! I get a great kick out of it while I’m playing those. Very satisfying.

As always, love from seattle! Enjoy your week! 😘

  19. The Lobby Of Hobbies

”There’s an option to back the deluxe components and…I took it.” Classic Amy and then Maggie’s face was priceless. I wasn’t aware of that campaign, but I am now. 💸💸💸💸
