Many pin creators do not seem to know (or care) that making enamel pins, etc., of copyrighted characters (like you see in comics, movies, games, manga and anime, etc.), is theft.
I'm suprised that Kickstarter allows it, but I think they leave that up to the companies who own those characters and IP (Intellectual Property) to make a complaint to them.
I have seen at least a couple pin Kickstarter campaigns get blocked when someone complained about the pin designs being of copyrighted characters.
It's no longer "fan art" when it is made into a product and sold commercially. It is theft.
Companies who make anime, manga, tv shows, films, comic books, etc, don't care if an artist does fan art for themselves or even sells individual custom drawings made at conventions, etc.
It's when the copycat "fan art" art is mass-produced (as in posters, art prints, stickers, washi tape, coloring books, or turned in to other products, like enamel pins, etc.), by someone who does not own the copyright to the character, etc., that they demand that the product be taken down from a shop, delisted or even ask for compensation in some cases.
It's better to create your own original art as you did. You will grow as an artist and become successfull. ❤️
I wanted to start my kickstarter on pins and earrings, but looking at this video I should honestly take it one project at a time. I should do the pins first, see how that goes and then do the earrings
If you only think a few of your backers car from your social media, where do you think the rest of the backers came from? Did they just find you on Kickstarter? I’m just wondering because I’m brand new to selling my digital art online, and I don’t really have a social media following yet. I’d love to do a Kickstarter campaign like this to get some enamel pins going, but I think I should probably wait until I’m a little better established on social media.
